Koora Camp !

“ The Quickest Route to Africa”

On the floor of the Rift Valley, just an hour & a half’s drive from Nairobi, is Koora Camp. What better place to choose to get out of the city & into Real Africa?
Here you share the immensity of the bush in the middle of Ol Doinyo Onyoike Group Ranch- at 60,000 hectares one of the larger properties in the country.

the wild

Here the local Loodokilani Maasai, who own the Group Ranch, have set aside the rich plains & thickets of Koora as a Wildlife Conservancy.

Here you may find giraffe, oryx, ostrich, Grant’s gazelles & eland, amongst a myriad of other species of mammals reflecting the semi-arid environment at this low altitude:it is hot & dry at Koora! The dryland birds are also rich in numbers & diversity & the Kwenia cliffs, half an hour’s drive from Camp, is the breeding place for many pairs of Ruppell’s Griffon vultures.

Predators, large & small, can also be found in the area. Leopards, striped & spotted hyenas & bat-eared foxes can be seen or heard near camp, which is near the cool thickets of the Koora Forest.

Nights in this dry environment are crystal-clear & you may admire the stars whilst enjoying the profound silence only to be found in this place seemingly so far from the city & yet so close……

Cost is 200 K sh per person per night to camp & a booking fee of 2,000 K sh is payable. These fees allow you to camp at Koora & to game drive over the Conservancy, where you should stick to established tracks to avoid damaging the fragile plains.

The booking fee ensures water is provided in this otherwise waterless area: be sure to carry your own drinking water & all you need for camping out.
